Birth Pool in a Box Regular vs Mini: Which Size Is Right for You?
Choose the Regular Birth Pool in a Box if you want more room to move and change position, or if you are taller or planning your first birth; choose the Mini if your room is smaller, you want a lighter pool that fills faster, or you are shorter in height. Both are the same professional-grade Eco pool, with reinforced heat-retaining walls, built-in handles and a molded seat, and both take the same fitted disposable liner. The Regular gives you a deeper, roomier space and holds more water, so it takes a little longer to fill. The Mini has a smaller footprint, uses less water and warms faster, which many families prefer in a bedroom or a compact bathroom. Neither is "better" — the right size is the one that fits your space, your height and how much room you want around you in labor.
What's the difference between the Regular and the Mini?
The two pools are built to the same standard; the difference is size and water volume. The Regular has a larger interior and greater depth, which gives you more freedom to kneel, lean and change position, and more space if a partner gets in to support you. The Mini keeps the same supportive depth in a smaller overall footprint, so it fits tighter spaces and needs less water — which means a faster fill and a lighter load on your floor. Both include the built-in seat and handles and use the same accessories.
Who should choose the Regular Birth Pool in a Box?
The Regular is the most popular choice for home birth, and it's the one we point most first-time parents toward. Pick it if you are taller, if you like the idea of plenty of room to move through labor, or if you have the space to site it (a living room, a larger bedroom, or a bathroom that can take its footprint). It holds more water, so plan for a slightly longer fill and have a way to top up warm water. If in doubt and you have the room, the Regular rarely disappoints.
Who should choose the Mini?
The Mini shines when space or logistics are the priority. Choose it if your birth room is compact, if you're worried about floor loading in an upstairs room, or if you simply want the quickest, most economical setup. Because it holds less water it fills faster and is easier to keep warm — a real advantage if your hot water supply is limited. Shorter parents often find the Mini's proportions a better fit, too. It gives up very little in comfort while being noticeably easier to site and fill.
Is "Eco" a third size?
No — this trips a lot of people up. You'll see "Eco" in our product names (for example, "Birth Pool in a Box Eco Regular"). Eco is the current Birth Pool in a Box line — all of our pools are the Eco version now — not a separate size. There are two sizes, Regular and Mini, and each comes in the Eco build. So the real decision is Regular vs Mini, then which tier (below), not "Regular vs Mini vs Eco."
Personal or Professional — which tier?
Each size comes in two tiers. A Personal pool is priced and warranted for a single birth (though many families reuse it in practice). A Professional pool carries a 40-use, one-year warranty and is built for midwives, birth centers, or families planning more than one birth — see our Professional packages. Whichever tier you choose, you use a fresh fitted liner for every birth, so hygiene is never a question of how many times the pool has been used.
Which size do most home births choose?
Most of our home-birth families choose the Regular when they have the space, because the extra room is genuinely welcome during a long labor, and the Mini when space, floor loading or fill time is the deciding factor. Both are excellent — you are choosing between two versions of the same well-made pool. The table below sums it up.

Is the Mini too small for a water birth?
No. The Mini keeps a birth-appropriate depth; it simply has a smaller footprint. It's a fully professional pool, not a scaled-down or novelty version — just easier to site and fill.
Can my partner get in the Regular pool with me?
The Regular has more room, so it's the better choice if you want a partner to get in for support. The Mini is comfortable for one.
Do the Regular and Mini use the same liner?
No — each size has its own fitted liner. Order the liner that matches your pool size; we stock liners for both the Regular and the Mini.
Which size fills faster?
The Mini. It holds less water, so it fills quicker and is easier to keep at the target 95–100°F — useful if your hot water supply is limited.
